This is absurd and unbelievable. The SECC has the guts …

Comment on The SECC stands for something by Michael.

This is absurd and unbelievable. The SECC has the guts to respond to Doug Batechlor’s message because it robbed them the wrong way but for over twenty years or so, LSU professors have promoted and taught evolution as a fact at LSU, but that conference’s leadership has been silent on this issue. The people who need to be sanctioned are the evolutionist at LSU who are leading impressionable young men and women astray, and not Pastor Doug, who is standing for the truth. Shane, we should all rise to Doug Batchelor’s defense, and I pray the LORD will strengthen him and give him the courage to stand for the truth like Elijah, Joshua, Daniel, and CHRIST did.

The SECC stands for something
Lydian, SECC as Dr. Stone noted, stands for Southeastern California Conference of SDA, the body that has administrative and oversight responsibilities for SDA churches in southeastern California, which includes the Riverside and San Bernandino counties. Dr. Fritz Guy, a former president of LSU, who has been cited on this forum many times regarding fundamental belief # 6, is a pastor under the SECC, and in fact in the late eighties he was an associate Pastor at the Loma Linda University SDA church. The administrative offices of SECC is at Riverside, CA. a few miles from the LSU campus.

At the GC session in Utrecht, Netherlands in 1995, the NAD petitioned the session to permit them to ordain women into the pastoral ministry, and the request was voted down. After the GC session, the SECC voted to ordain women into ministry in opposition to the decision of the world church, and sadly neither the GC leadership under Elder Folkenberg nor the NAD leadership under Elder Mclure, I don’t know if I got his name right, did nothing publicly about this rebellion, hence the SECC was emboldened and therefore Hyveth Williams was posted to the Campus Hill at the Loma Linda campus as a senior pastor by the SECC for many years.

Now the SECC is requesting that Doug Batchelor be censured for preaching on a subject that robs them the wrong way, but that conference has been in rebellion agianst the world church since late 1995, and they have not been censured. What has the SECC done about the apostasy at LSU for the past 20 years or so?. Does it not smell like hypocrisy? They want to gag people like Doug Batchelor and if they succeed in this effort who will be next, perhaps David Asscherik whose email to the GC president brought this issue to the forefront, or perhaps Sam Pipim who speaks frequently against issues in the church that the leadership prefers to shove under the rug. I believe those of us who have spoken eloquently against this rebellion at LSU regarding evolution should rise to the defense of pastor Doug and anyone else who is not afraid to call sin by it’s rightful name, and we must be prepared to meet the other challenges ahead of us. The next issue coming is HOMOSEXUALITY and GAY MARRIAGE, watch out.

La Sierra University Resignation Saga: Stranger-than-Fiction
Bill Sorensen, thank you for your insightful comments. It is really sad to see these attacks against the doctrines of GOD’s remnant church from within. Why can’t these people who are trying to water down the standards of the church simply leave and form their own group. I have no problem accepting the creation account as clearly stated in Genesis chapter 1. After all if Jesus by word of mouth brought Lazarus out of the grave, then I have no problem accepting the fact that, he also created this world by word of mouth in SIX literal, contiguous days. Thank you also to Bob Ryan, Ron Stone, Faith, David Read, Shane, and all of you out there who are standing up to this assault from the enemy against the church.

Michigan Conference takes substantial action in LSU conflict
Alan says:

“So, in my view I fully support La Sierra in trying to take a holistic approach to teaching science and expose its students to the wider scientific truth that opens a discussion between Christian students and those who aren’t about scientific facts that need to be included in today’s SDA educational system. We cannot sit blindly anymore as passive students, but active teachers of the truth. They say that “truth hurts” and I think that this just might be the case in our church.
God expects us all to keep studying His word and His WORLD, not regurgitate the truths we know, but find new ways of understanding and thinking that applies to current world, day, and age.

“Study to show thyself approved…”

Alan you ended your posting with a partial quotation of Paul’s admonition to Timothy, the full text reads, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. 2 Timothy 2 : 15. What is TRUTH?. The Jesus says in John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth”. Yes our minds have to be open to accept my revelations BUT only if they are in harmony with the standard bearer, the BIBLE. Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter will not teach us anything that will contradict his own teaching. We are on dangerous ground if we just open our minds to embrace anything and everything that is out there in the world.

Dr. Geraty clarifies his “Challenge” to literal 6-day creationism
Erik Mundall says:
“I’m sure you are well-intentioned and sincere, but your meaning is not quite clear in the part I quoted above. I think you are correct, but it sounds almost like you are saying prophetic days can have only one definition, which would be incorrect (and is not what you meant, if I interpret correctly)”.

Erik, sorry if I did not make myself clear from my previous posting. I am not saying prophetic days can have only one definition, not at all. I am aware of all the scriptures that you quoted in your post and I believe them wholeheartedly. My point is that, there is not even a consensus amongst those who teach this erroneous interpretation of Genesis 1 what one DAY stands for, that is, is it 1,000 days or 10,000 days?. My challenge to Professor Geraty was that if be believes one literal day in Genesis 1 means 10,000 days for instance, then by the same logic the spies who went to Cannan would have spent 40 x 10,000 days literally, which according to Numbers 14:34 will translate into 40 x 10,000 years in the wilderness, using a day equals a year prophetic interpretation. Then by the same token 2 Peter 3: 8 which reads, “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”, will translate into 1 x 10,000 days for a thousand x 10,000 years. That is the consistency I was talking about. Is it not absurd? The Genesis account has to be taken literally because it harmonizes with the rest of scripture.

Like I said earlier, this convoluted line of reasoning obviously if embraced, nullifies all the time prophecies in the Bible, the Sabbath and all that this remnant movement stands for. Erik, I hope I have made myself clear.

Dr. Geraty clarifies his “Challenge” to literal 6-day creationism
Professor Geraty says;
“Christ tells us they will know us by our love, not by our commitment to a seven literal historical, consecutive, contiguous 24-hour day week of creation 6,000 years ago which is NOT in Genesis no matter how much the fundamentalist wing of the church would like to see it there”.

While it is true that the Bible does not define a DAY as a 24-hour period, it certainly defines a DAY as evening+morning according to the Genesis chapter 1, and not a DAY equals 1,000 evenings+1,000 mornings, or 10,000 evenings+10,000 mornings. If Dr. Geraty is rejecting the evening+morning definition of one DAY in Genesis 1, then he has to be intellectually consistent and apply whatever definition of a DAY he chooses to all the time prophecies and any reference to a DAY in the Bible. For example, according to Dr. Geraty’s logic, the children of Israel sending the spies to Canaan for 40 DAYS will translate into 40 (10,000 evenings+10,000 mornings) DAYS or whatever. What an absurdity. This convoluted line of reasoning obviously if embraced, nullifies all the time prophecies in the Bible, the Sabbath and all that this remnant movement stands for. The world church will obviously not stand for this absurd interpretation of scripture so it is about time Dr. Geraty and his cohorts muster the courage and walk away from the SDA church. It seems they are behaving like the proverbial “sheep in wolves clothing” and undermining the church from within.

Students and alumni sing LSU’s praises
Adventist in High School says:
The church’s view on origins is that God created it, as an Adventist, I cannot agree with a mindset that labels incorrect another’s view simply because you are in disagreement with it, which seems to be the gist of this website. The creation week does not have to be taken literally, even my bible teacher concurs to that, and trust me, he’s as conservative as they come. You can believe in creation, if you want to, without being divisive.

As a parent, my advice to this young high school student is; “be careful what you wish for”. It seems to me from your reasoning above that you are on a very slippery slope. Please humble yourself before GOD for him to use you, because it takes faith to believe in the GOD of creation as well as the god of evolution. To me it takes a lot more faith to believe in Drawin’s theory of origins. By the way, can you also tell me if plant life evolved or not. That is, explain to me how the rose plant evolved to become a cedar tree.
