The reality of creation is the basis of our name

By Educate Truth Staff

During his sermon “Remember your name,” Ted Wilson reminded listeners that the literal creation week is the foundation for the seventh-day Sabbath. He said, “Saying you are a Seventh-day Adventist identifies you as a believer of this truth that is made so plain in Scripture!”

Creation
Remember your name Seventh-day Adventist! It is so distinctive. The “seventh-day” refers to God’s power in creating this earth in six literal, consecutive, contiguous, 24-hour days and capping it with a memorial of that creation, the seventh-day Sabbath. This reminds us that we are a direct creation of God and not some chance anomaly of some impersonal evolutionary process. Saying you are a Seventh-day Adventist identifies you as a believer of this truth that is made so plain in Scripture! God has commanded us in Exodus 20:8-11 to “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh-day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Listen to what Ellen White says in Selected Messages, Book 2, page 385 about attempts to de-emphasize our distinctive belief and understanding,“I was told that men will employ every policy to make less prominent the difference between the faith of Seventh-day Adventists and those who observe the first day of the week. In this controversy the whole world will be engaged, and the time is short. This is no time to haul down our colors.”

He also addressed Seventh-day Adventist churches and institutions that have “invented” “generic, non-distinctive” names. While La Sierra University may not bear the name Seventh-day Adventist, it certainly would like the church to think it upholds the churches belief in a recent, special creation that occurred within 6 days. Claiming to be a Seventh-day Adventist institution while undermining the foundation for its name is less than disingenuous. It’s time La Sierra University decide where it really stands. Will they embrace the name Seventh-day Adventist in practice, or continue on their divergent path while continuing to pay lip service?

  1. This is a wonderful sermon. Due to problems with my Hope Chanel system I was unable to listen to it so was delighted to see it printed on your website. I was able to make a printed copies of it to share with some friends who also were not able to hear it. Thanks so much!

  2. With all the evolution being promulgated by some of our hierarchy, it is so refreshing to hear the leader saying we stand by the Bible. I recently received a letter from La Sierra Alumni asking for a donation. I said absolutely not. You are not my school anymore. It would be better for them to change the Sabbath to Sunday, and they would still be keeping a day to honor God. As it is they are eliminating Him as the creator of everything and taking away the inerrancy of the Bible.

  3. I can’t watch any nature program on my TV without evolution being promoted. Surely this is the time for our church and universities to be making a stand against the accepted doctrine of the so called experts that feed this misinformation to the world. I too watched our new president’s speech and wept. How far have we come from what we stand for? Ellen White wrote that the youth would finish this work, how can they when we don’t give them the truth to preach? God help us at this crisis time.
