Comment on The Rise of Theistic Evolutionism – The Salvation of Christianity? by George Tichy.

@ James:

“I don’t understand this torturus debate about evidence vs. faith. Theres no question which is more important, it’s faith.”

FAITH is always the easy-way-out answer when someone does not know the real answer.

The problem is that faith is always a supposition, a probability, something may-be-possible, not based on facts or evidence. In religion, when there is no supportive evidence or facts to substantiate an idea, people are told, “You have to accept it by faith.” (Or, in the SDA Church, “EGW said so!”)

This was the RCC’s procedure for centuries, which is still used in our days, and in our SDA Church as well.

Facts will finally supersede faith when they are found. Until then, faith will be a great tool to manipulate the crowds.

@Ken: Does anyone know the difference between ATHEISM and AGNOSTICISM? Some comments above suggest that the difference is not well understood.

Hi Ken,

So our population suddenly doubled around here? Nice meeting you.

The Rise of Theistic Evolutionism – The Salvation of Christianity?
I am amazed (actually stunned) seeing how some people can explain God so well, offering details that one couldn’t ever guess. They know exactly how God is, who he speaks to, what he thinks, what he will do, and who he will save or not.

For me, being an Adventist for all my life (ca. 60 yeras), the only solution for too many unanswerable questions has been to adhere to AGNOSTICISM. Imagine, an agnostic adventist!!!Yes, this is exactly it!Because I never developed the ability to speak in name of God, and those who do this are just fooling themselves.

The wise say:

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” — Buddha

“In matters of the intellect, follow your reason as far as it will take you, without regard to any other consideration. And negatively: In matters of the intellect, do not pretend that conclusions are certain which are not demonstrated or demonstrable” (Huxley, Agnosticism, 1889).

Bill, it saddens me to see you declaring publicly a total ignorance about the Nature vs Nature issue. Instead, you go after others personally. Since we have such opposite views on the issue, I have no further comments for you.

Pacific Union College Encouraging Homosexual Marriage?
“…homosexual practices…”

First, thanks for not just deleting my initial comment.

Let me be clear, I am not talking about homosexual practices, but rather the homosexual gender, so to speak. Nature, not Nurture. Genes, not choices. Brain wiring, not perversion. Almost every time I comment of the nature of those individuals with homosexual traits I get someone talking back about “homosexual practices.” I do not condone homosexual practices. Never did, never will. But it seems that people do not want to really listen to I what I am actually saying.

Like (almost) anyone else, homosexuals too have sexual needs. And they were born stuck with a very troubling nature. Yes, biblically trey cannot have homosexual practices, I always agreed to this. So, what they do? They have to stay celibate.

This is certainly a harsh penalty, but it is what it is. Ultimately, this is between them and God, their Creator. As I always say, we have no right to be their judges, first because we are not in their shoes, second because they belong to God by creation.

The major ongoing problem with this issue is that most people do not understand the Nature x Nurture concept. They need to be educated, and should speak only after being properly educated.

It’s is very unfortunate that you guys are unable to discuss ideas and principles without threatening people who see things different than you. In a discussion of such an important and serious issue, you should be ashamed of yourselves for punching others below the belt.

The day you find a gay person who was “treated” and is no longer gay, please contact me with the news. I am talking about “change of nature,” not conversion and change of habits (behavior). In the meantime, why don’t you stop bullshitting people with falsehood? Just suggestin’ …….

Faithful Disciple: George, I don’t know you and you don’t know me. There is no personal attack. You do a lot of defending of LSU and align yourself with them. I have followed your posts on Spectrum for awhile. I get your push for the liberalization of the SDA Church and your desire to let LSU continue its wayward course of apostasy from the Church.
Bring on the ideas! Let’s discuss ideas. Do you support evolution as the explanation of our origins? [edit] Do you support our 28 Fundamental Beliefs? Do you believe that faculty have an obligation to be loyal to the church’s beliefs and follow the contract that they signed that states that they will adhere to the church’s belief on abstaining from alcohol (among other requirements)? If you do not support the church’s stance on any of the subjects, why do you stay? Why don’t you go to another denomination that believes like you do? There are other “Christian” denominations that believe in evolution, [edit] etc. Why not join them? Why not go to any of a number of Sunday churches in your Riverside area?

It’s like LSU Alumnuns 1996 wisely said, “And every time some ignoramus says “you represent what is wrong with LSU,” there is truly no greater validation that LSU is doing the right thing…”

What is this Mr “Faithfull Disciple”, an inquisition?
First of all, do you have a name? Why do you hide yourself behind a pseudonym?
Second, you are not behaving as a “disciple”; in your statements above you sound as trying to be GOD to us! But let me remind you, Who are you to ask me all those questions? None of your business! Don’t you get it yet? None of your inquisitive effort and accusations against people who are independent thinkers will ever do anything but reveal your bias, total lack of respect for others, arrogance at worst, and a profound lack of human sensitivity. But, sure, you probably call it Christian Attitude, or Adventist Ethics, right? Yeah, right!!! Heathenism is more moral than this!!!

Thus, I recommend you to keep verbalizing all your intolerance and anger (and passing judgement!) against those who think different than you. It’s a good way to moraly destroy yourself in an idiotic way. Go ahead, we will all be looking at you! (Just kidding I guess because, actually, Who wants to waste time with this type of retrograde mentality?)

This is my position, my opinion. Now you can have the last word after this, because I am done with your limited/biased/intolerant/persecutory/worthless thinking.
Good luck!

Faithful Disciple: George, you represent much of what is wrong at LSU.

I verbalized my opinion. This is what I think.
I didn’t attack anyone personally who thinks different than me. Making personal attacks is just ignorance and inability to stay on the higher sphere of discussing just ideas. I prefer discussing ideas than people – especially those I don’t even know.
