@Bill Sorensen:

Rom 2:14: ‘Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.’

@Sean Pitman:

Sorry, I am not an American. Is LLU also a hotbed of evolution or quite different?

@Holly Pham:

Sean this is exactly where I get confused with the two different types of YEC Creationists (see my comments above). Are we to use science or not?

@Sean Pitman:

Thanks Sean, that is where I think I get really confused. There really does appear to be two type of YEC Creationists. There are those who just say, ‘forget the science, you should be believing the Bible, not that secular stuff’. Then there are those who say, ‘no science is good, because it is a form of divine revelation (i.e. lesser light) BUT science can prove the YEC hypothesis.’ It appears some YEC pick and choose which approach to take depending upon the circumstances.

If I recall, Educate Truth had a fight with the Spectrum people about this very issue. It is all very confusing really.

@Ron: See for me that is the critical point. I am not a scientist (nor are the 99.9% of other Adventists, including SDA leaders), so we have to rely on what scientists say. If even Adventist scientists are now saying there is something in evolution, despite the huge pressures they would no doubt receive to just stay quiet, then there must be strong evidence in support it.

I personally wish it wasn’t true, but one cannot live their life ignoring the truth. This especially if one belongs to a denomination known for the world’s largest protestant education and health systems, progressive revelation, present truth and anti-creedism.

@Ron: What happened to the spirit of the early Adventist pioneers, who were all about progressive revelation and present truth, theological diversity and anti-creedism? Who today can really claim the mantle of ‘historic’ Adventism?

Tennessee Bill Allows Creation in Science Classrooms
Question, even if we personally believe in God’s literal creation of the world in 6 x 24 hours, and whilst we should teach this in our church schools, should public schools be following likewise? What happened to the Adventist position on the separate of Church and State, which is in effect the cause of eschatological persecution.

Isn’t this Bill (despite perhaps good motives) a frightful example of the rise of the joining of Catholic-dominated (think Santorum) Christianity, joining hands with Protestant Evangelicals, to take control of the United States? Which is more of a threat – the teaching of evolution, which this Bill attacks, or the separation of Church and State, which this Bill also attacks?

Michigan Conference vs. LSU – Right Wing Politics or Truth in Advertising?
Sorry I am getting a little confused. Do any of the 28 fundamental beliefs, especially FB#6, require acceptance of a 6×24 hour creation? I am reading it an can’t see that it says exactly that? In any event, Adventists have long prided themselves on having no creed, being open to the notion of progressive revelation and present truth. What seems to be suggested is a credal test?

It also surprises me that a common argument used by conservatives today amounts to – ‘if you don’t like it, leave.’ However, if all our pioneers did just that, we would be an anti-Trinitarian, Arian, legalistic, pantheistic, shut-door, racially segregated (still haven’t completely fixed that one), dress-reform wearing, Turkish-hating cult.

Perhaps it is because conservatives have been so willing to leave the official church at the drop of a hat that so shocks them that progressives are generally not so willing to follow suit.

Can someone please explain to me why an Adventist scientist or academic would chose to throw away their career, life, Church standing etc etc in advocating evolution, when it would be so much easier just to shut up and tow the official party line? Surely, there would be much pressure to just keep quiet? Whether one agrees with their stance or not, surely it must take a lot of courage and conviction to talk about evolution within official Adventism?
